La montagna incantata, Thomas Mann

Thomas Mann (1875-1955) is a leading German scholars. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1929 "Principally for His great novel, Buddenbrooks, Which has won steadily Increasing recognition as one of the classic works of contemporary literature" , is also the author of The Magic Mountain, Death in Venice. All three of these books have been the subject of the film adaptation.

The design for this novel was born from a stay as a guest of his wife in a Swiss clinic, provided originariamente un romanzo breve.

The initial period of three weeks it becomes a stay of seven years, during which, as well as accompanied by his cousin, is struck by the beautiful Russian Castorp Chauchat which falls in love, and in the meantime cultivate the friendship of the bizarre and controversial Italian Mason Settembrini and then his friend's Jesuit Naphta. These two characters in particular involving them long and deep discussions on a myriad of topics for which you are always in total disagreement. The same Castorp first became interested in human physiology and physics and then again to other disciplines that in normal life never had the opportunity to address.

The basic meaning of the book is obscure even to critics of Mann, who express opposing views. I can not say I understood exactly what he wanted to tell Mann with this tome, but it certainly is a fascinating read, although often exhausting because of the style of writing pompous and verbose. But the bildungsroman of Castorp, running from a colony (if I am not mistaken) as a smug bourgeois filled with platitudes and whims and ends up getting bogged down for seven years in a sanatorium outside world (of which the slow pace and muffled the length the novel is a challenging metaphor) and then finish the last pages a correre sotto le bombe e gli spari della guerra, è un’incredibile avventura.

Airlocks In Underfloor Heating Pipes

Il mio nome è rosso, Orhan Pamuk

Orhan Pamuk è uno dei maggiori scrittori turchi contemporanei. Nel 2006 è stato insignito del Premio Nobel per la Letteratura con la seguente motivazione: "who in the quest for the melancholic soul of his native city has discovered new symbols for the clash and interlacing of cultures".

Istanbul, 1951. Nero, lontano dalla city for ten long years of working as a clerk called back by Uncle Effendi, who wants his help to complete a book commissioned by the Sultan, who are working in secret for a long time and the best illuminators of the Sultan.

In conjunction with the return of Nero, one of the thumbnail is brutally murdered and a number of circumstances, Black finds himself investigating the murder, hoping also to win the beautiful cousin SEKUR.

The book can be read on several levels. It may be the love story of Nero who, after being rejected by SEKUR ten years ago, back from his voluntary exile and discovers he has a chance to win. Can be a thriller, in which a murderess makes its voice and will be exposed only at the end of many adventures. It may be a dissertation on the values of the East miniature drawing as Allah sees and values (or blasphemy) representation of "realistic" typical of the West.
The story is told with a baroque language, pervasive and almost opioid into the story in a chaotic quivering of Istanbul drives groundwater. Each chapter tells the story in first person using different characters and even some of the characters of the thumbnails. Fascinated
of its kind and surely a masterpiece, I must confess that I liked very much. I did not odiato, ma neppure amato.

***spoiler***

Bleach Black Converse

Piccole confusioni di letto, Emily Giffin

Rachel is an intelligent young woman (an attorney at a law firm in New York) beautiful and very well. On the threshold of his thirties is normal to make a kind of provisional budget: even if his deepest desires are quite trivial (having a job they like, having a boy in love) Rachel must admit that essere riuscita a realizzarne nessuno: odia il suo lavoro stressante presso lo studio legale, sotto un boss schizzato e non c'è traccia di un possibile fidanzato.

Dex unfortunately it is not his own opinion, and keep up the relationship with Rachel in spite of the wedding are close. The same also well Rachel must admit to being in love with Dex, although he does not know how to handle it ...

A chick-lit novel is not among the best. Despite the striking cover and light-hearted title, the book is a bit 'frightening in its analysis of the betrayal of Rachel and Dex, and even if he wants to be a deep and mature reflection, the plot uses the most vulgar tricks of chick-lit (the real love, the beloved friend who is actually trampling on the main character, the absurd plot twists) but failed to emulate the lightness and charm.

Purtroppo non c'è molto spazio for his beliefs: the German is contacted by her friend Martha, a former prostitute hours Bouquin, who claims to be the murderess in the house of women. In reality he is Clement, once the protege of Martha, who had not seen him since he was a tot. Convinced of his innocence persuades Martha to take care of the German investigation to clear him. When the German
realizes that there is an identikit that would make the end of Clement, is not better than hiding in the house of the three evangelists, where there is always someone to watch him and no woman.

not up to the previous book ( Who died raise your hand) at the level of plot (The murderess is pretty trivial), and less sympathetic because of the German which is placed between the investigation and our beloved three evangelists, and Godfather, it's still a great film noir.
